New Advertisements - 02/09/2006 03:01 GMT
Well, the google ads on this site just aren't pulling their weight. I made about $100 last month from just under half a million page views and that sux IMHO. I have decided to swap it out for some ebay ads.. see how that goes. Hopefully this new ad will actually allow me to cover the costs of hosting this site.
So if you feel like buying something from ebay feel free to click one of the ebay banners (I get paid on commission); the ebay one is on a 50% rotation for the month to see how it fairs.
I have also contemplated moving the advertisement, putting up a donations link, or perhaps do somthing else.. If anyone has any suggestions or just wants to throw in their 2 cents, feel free. I would love to hear what people have to say.

An API is doable and i may pop that out in the future.
as for the bandwidth, i dont need bandwidth, this website uses a very large amount of processor power to parse the portage tree on each update. so i basically require my own server (which i have), actually i'm sharing with gentoo-wiki.com and this site uses about a 1/4 share of the resources working out to a cost of 130$ a month or so

This is not a comment about the ads but about the change log pages. I'd like it if the bug numbers where links to bugs.gentoo.org (They were in the old design, weren't they?)
Otherwise the site is great!

is there a way to process the tree off site and upload the processed data to the server? I am thinking a rsync like upload but something that is a little smarter and already knows what has changed instead of computing it. A big project but it might help reduce the ndd for such a big server. Just a thought.

an easy way to get the list of newest packages for your arch without.. faster than the sync and one could have a script run through it and check if something importent has been updated.
