x11-drivers/ati-drivers

Ati precompiled drivers for recent chipsets

Screenshots

This is NOT a bugtrack... IMHO although slow if you are in anticipation, the drivers are there rather quickly. First of all you nagging people should keep an eye on the gentoo bug tracker. So you can understand the reasons, as using the bleeding edge ebuilds provided in the bugs before they hit the tree. Lets all realise it's a free os ;) so a few week isn't that long a time if you ask me.
The ati-drivers are a nasty proprietary binary blob of code which causes problems .. (and really almost nothing fundamental changes in between version :()

The 8.33.6 drivers are out! They're compatible with (now in ~x86) XOrg X11 7.2 which I use. Without them I'm off to no direct rendering. Also can you make it at least simultaneously with ati-drivers-extra? I'm really tired of all this ati-drivers-extra release a week or more after ati-drivers while it's basically the same archive and same thing from couple of ebuilds...

Hey, the new drivers have been out for 4 weeks! You need to put up the 8.31.5 ati-drivers. My X200M radeon just got 960fps with these drivers!!!

Man, I need the 8.24.8 driver too! My radeon X200M 3d/2d acceleration is broken without it!!! Oh yeah, the 8.24.8 driver works on the 2.16.18 kernel too. I looked it up on the net! ;P

Yeah. I also really need 8.24.8. Where can I find an ebuild archive?

@dmvianna
Only version 8.29.6 of ati-drivers (not yet in portage) support the 2.6.18 version of the kernel.

Hey!!! why did we remove the 8.25.18 drivers??? I need those for my X200M radeon!! They are the only drivers that work with my radeon!!!!

ati-drivers-8.26.18-r1 seems not to compile with vanilla-sources-2.6.18-rc2. I need both to support my hardware. Aaargh!!!

I desperately need 8.24.8 which ATI just released recently. www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=442&num=1
I have a X19000XTX and really need the update so I can use it.

The system doesn't freeze on logout (you can still ctrl+alt+backspace or ctrl+alt+del to rebooot) with 8.23.7 and linux-2.16.16 but the display doesn't return either (black screen). 8.14.13-r5 is the only one that works on my system but it will only compile with linux-2.6.13 .

If using 2.6.16 kernel, use ati-drivers-8.23.7 to avoid problems. Also, seems like 3d performance is much smoother in the new drivers?
